Lighthousekeeping Jeanette Winterson $22.95 Possibly my top pick book from my favourite writer. I especially like this new edition, as it contains an excellent interview with the author. Winterson’s hallmarks of poetic writing, unspecified gender, and literary references make this a stunning read. I was fortunate to hear the author speak at Sydney Writer's Festival in May 2008. |

When I saw this fat volume I had to own it and have the pleasure of reading some old favourites again! |

Stravinsky’s Lunch Drusilla Modjeska $38.50 I loved reading about the contrasting lives of two great Australian artists. Grace Cossington Smith spent all her life in Australia, became a family carer, and painted frequently in the domestic arena The adventurous Stella Bowen lived in Paris, and rubbed shoulders with the bohemian literati of Europe. Beautiful writing, lovely examples of the women’s work, and lots of inspiration for any aspiring artist (like me!). |

This huge collection of letters cover their legendary love affair over nineteen years of flirtation and adoration. Studio In Montparnasse Penelope Little $60.00 More on the theme of Australian women artists, this is the life and times of Bessie Davidson (1879-1965) from Adelaide. She was a previously little known painter, who worked mainly in Paris, and exhibited in the salons there. Penny Little has done amazing research in Australia and in France. Her large format book is beautiful to hold, a pleasure to read, and includes many colour plates of Bessie’s wonderful work. |
